Put yourself in the shoes of your customers and think about what they want to see when they visit your website.Online Success

During the early 1990s companies tended to put as many features on their website as possible.

The trend in 2000 has given the rise and success of minimalism.

Today people really want is a balance between design and functionality. Enough features to make your website site easy to use and not cluttered.

Customers want two things convenience and relevancy, which is like what Google also looks for relevancy and up to date (fresh) information

It is very important to ask yourself

  • Why are people visiting my website? Ask yourself honestly and forget what your goals are eg building a mailing list database & making money. This will help make your website relevant to the people that matter your existing and future clients.

A few things you should always consider

1/ A design that is responsive

So your website functional automatically changes so it is easy to navigate and read on smartphones and tablets. Websites that are responsive designed makes them faster to use, which is favourable by Google which meaning it will give you website search rankings a boost.

2/ Social media integration

We are past where social media is optional. your website design need to have quick links to the popular social networks with sharing options. Share the links should at least include, Google+, Linkedin, Facebook, Twitter, Add to Favourites, Email a friends.

3/ Contact and Location information

Easy to find phone number, list it for every business location.. Also provide contact details, location and operating hours for each business. The majority of people research online just to get contact details like phone number or find about your bricks and mortar locations. They want it easy to find, quickly as possible after reaching your site. Don’t disappoint them or they’ll run to a competitor.

4/ Navigation

Navigation menus needs to be clearly labelled and lead to useful landing pages. Customers need to find what they want immediately, Google will be able to search your site quickly and efficiently, thus improving the search engine ranking.

5/ Images

Too many images makes your web pages load slowly which is annoying for visitors with slow internet connection. But you do need to have some images on your site, and the number depends on what industry you’re in. Be smart and resize images before uploading images.

Don’t rely on stock images (hi resolution) for everything which is a trap many Business 2Business, businesses fall into. It’s a good opportunity to showcase what your business does and give it some personality.
