Improving Google Crawler Speed

How to get Google to crawl our site faster?

There are a few things you can do to improve your crawl speed.

Google crawlers are also know as Googlebots or Google’s web crawling bot, sometimes also called a spider. The more Googlebots crawl your website the better it will be indexed. The better your Google indexing is directly reflected in how high your website appears in a Google search.

Google wants to show a Googler (a person searching on Google) the best results for the search terms they search for. So Google ranks (indexes) websites for search terms. Google works this out with it’s ever changing Analytics.

Have an authoritative website

An authoritative website is basically a website that is recognised buy Google to;

  • Have relevant and recent information, this can be achieved by adding regular, informative, relevant well written (short, well formed sentences with good grammar)
  • Have back links from similar or related website, showing that this website is an important part of this topic being searched on Google.
Note: irrelevant or spammy links from non related websites or on non related topics can ban a website from any Google search.
  • Be a site with little or no error of coding faults
    – bad links or 301 redirect pages

Google also looks at

  • Your websites security
    – are all the software that your website has up to date?
    – Do you have an SSL Certificate for your website?
Google now penalisers a website that collects any persons details (like a contact form) if they done have https:// as the URL prefix
  • a XML sitemap installed, so Google can find it’s way around you site easily
  • Pages need to load fast,
    – so good website coding is important,
    – smart plug in are important to improve caching & file loading speed
    – images with the smallest file size is critical
  • Not being Responsive (mobile friendly website) Google penalises websites that are not mobile friendly when searched on a mobile devices, thus your website needs to be Responsive.
  • Too many URL on the one page to the same page etc, as this can slow Google crawlers down, as do spammy links.

Tips to increase your crawl speed

A couple of simple tips to increase your site’s crawl speed:

  • Using the methods above, find and fix all the errors.
    – Especially making your site Responsive (mobile friendly)
    – Have an SSL Certificate – having URL that starts with https://
    – Having a website that all the software is up to date
  • Keep your site recent and relevant with fresh quality well written content
  • Make sure your site is fast.
  • Add an XML sitemap to your site and submit it to the search engines.
  • If all of that fails to improve your crawl speed, start link building!

HTTPS for Google Ranking

This is the latest news from Google on security and safety on the Internet

HTTPS as a ranking signal security symbol

Security is a top priority for Google. We invest a lot in making sure that our services use industry-leading security, like strong HTTPS encryption by default. That means that people using Search, Gmail and Drive, for example, automatically have a secure connection to Google.

Beyond our own stuff, we’re also working to make the Internet safer more broadly. A big part of that is making sure that websites people access from Google are secure. For instance, we have created resources to help webmasters prevent and fix security breaches on their sites.

Read full article at Google Blog

The Main Reasons to Listen to Google

  1. They are the most used search engine with 85 to 90% market share.
  2. If your website has a contact form then it is considered by Google to now need a SSL certificate to be a HTTPS website & rank better than your competitors that don’t.
  3. Yes all Shopping Cart websites definitely need to be HTTPS (have a SSL certificate installed)

We recommend that we all heed Google and add SSL Certificate to our websites, to make your site HTTPS. That is to have HTTPS://domain.com.au rather than the standard HTTP://domain.com.au

Domains Protecting Your Brand

This is part D of the A to Z of Business & Website Tips

Domain Name Registration Protecting your Brand

When starting a new website, one of the first and most important decisions you have to make is choosing a domain name. That choice will impact the website’s success in nearly every area, included search engine optimization (SEO) and social media marketing (SMM).padlock domain image

SEOs and search marketers purchased domains that contained their targeted keywords in order to increase CTRs (Click Through Rates) and to help gain higher rankings on Google and other search engines.

  • The presence of the keyword phrase in the domain was itself a ranking factor.
  • The presence of the keyword phrase in the domain encouraged other webmasters to include
  • The keyword phrase in the anchor text when linking to the site.

However with recent Google algorithm updates the domain name don’t carry as weight as they used to. However you need to protect your business & brand name.

Choosing a Brandable or Catchy Domain

The first step to building a brand is choosing a brandable domain

Your domain name is how users will find, remember, share and identify your company online.

Your brand is important, and your domain name is the foundation upon which your online brand will be built. In both social media and search engines, the domain name is the primary way by which users can identify where the link will lead.

Things to consider when choosing domains

  1. Secure as many relevant domains as possible – the domains extensions for relevant countries, like .com for international traders, possible future common business names and expanding brands, like franchises. Plus you need to register relevant domain names in every country domain your trade in eg Australia .com.au, NZ .co.nz & the UK register .co.uk
  2. The domain needs to be memorable – users must be able to easily remember your domain name/brand.
  3. Be relevant – words have implicit meanings and connotations
  4. Easy to spell – Your domain name must be easy to spell. Avoid commonly misspelled words, intentional misspellings and hyphens
  5. Sound authoritative – Your domain name should sound like a trustworthy authority
  6. Shorter is better – Keep your domain name short; 1 or 2 words is best. The top 100,000 websites, on average, have nine characters in their domain names
  7. Be unique – One of your marketing goals should be to build a distinct brand that stands out from your competitors.

Emails from Your Domain – look more professional

How professional does your band look if you use a Yahoo, Hotmail or Gmail email address as your main email address.

Be professional use your domain as your email eg sales@yourdomain.com.au for the sales department and your personal business email address yourname@yourdomain.com.au

customer satisfaction

Customer Focus

This is part C of the A to Z of Business & Website Tips

Good Customer Service is the Key; customer satisfaction

  • Know your customers,
  • Focus on the right customers &
  • Give them that special treatment

How to Find Your Best Customers

The 80/20 Rule of Sales is an old business adage:

About 20 percent of your customers produce 80 percent of your sales.

The funny thing is that business owners often ignore the 80/20 rule.

We’re all tempted to waste our time trying to please all of our customers instead of the most lucrative ones.

We are all conditioned to always respond to the stimulus around us. So if you obey the 80/20 rule, you are going always to feel as though you are ignoring something — because you are.

It will be an irritating feeling at first. And it particularly gnaws at people that want to give 100% customer satisfaction, because they are prone to trying to treat people equally.

But all customers are not equal. Far from it. Some earn you an amazingly disproportionate amount of money, many make you a little bit of money, and some even waste your time. With the last group, you lose money selling anything to them at all.

Your goal should be to zero in on those 20 percent of customers who are essential for your business’ prosperity.

Here are some tips on how to find the 20% best customers:

Mine your customer lists.

Maybe it’s your email distribution list or your company’s Facebook following. But I still find it amazing how many businesses don’t bother to look up sales data on the customers. Apply the R-F-M rule: Check which customers on your list bought most Recently, bought more Frequently, and spent the most Money. Bingo. You’ve found a chunk of your 20 percent. Focus on them. Send them nicer Christmas gifts. Send them a postcard when you’re on vacation.

Study your geography.

Delve into your point of sale systems and find out where your money-making customers actually live. Then focus advertising etc in that area.

Find your customer niches.
The customers who buy the most expensive products or services almost always fit a peculiar demographic. They are noticeably different than everyone else. Stay open-minded as you figure this out, too.

Fire your problem customers.

Inevitably, there is another 10-20 percent of customers who rack up support tickets and chew up phone time, and take away from you servicing your most lucrative 20 percent. If you’ve tried to fit a square peg into a round hole too many times with them, just stop. I’ve done that. I’ve said to customers, ‘I should not be consulting for you anymore.’ I’ve occasionally even blacklisted customers — or at least made a point to ignore them until they go away. Be polite and gracious about it, because you don’t want a bad online review. But still do it.

Pinpoint your ‘Silent High-Volume Buyers.’

Almost all businesses have a few of them — especially in B-to-B companies. They send in a purchase order every two months, and it’s usually a nice fat one. They truly are your highest-return customers. They require so little maintenance that you don’t even notice they’re there most of the time.

Great customer service can be your very own secret weapon!

The key to good customer service is building good relationships with your customers. Thanking the customer and promoting a positive, helpful and friendly environment will ensure they leave with a great impression. A happy customer will return often and is likely to spend more.

To ensure you provide the best customer service:

  • know what your customers consider to be good customer service
  • take the time to find out customers’ expectations
  • follow up on both positive and negative feedback you receive
  • ensure that you consider customer service in all aspects of your business
  • continuously look for ways to improve the level of customer service you deliver.

The following are some of the main elements of good customer service.

Customer relationships

To build good customer relationships you need to:

  • greet customers and approach them in a way that is natural and fits the individual situation
  • show customers that you understand what their needs are
  • accept that some people won’t want your products and concentrate on building relationships with those who do
  • help people – even just letting a customer know about an event that you know they’re personally interested in is helpful
  • continue to keep customers aware of what’s in it for them to do business with you.

Improving customer service

Customer service is about giving customers what they want, when they want it, in the best possible way. If your business provides good customer service, you have a greater chance of keeping and increasing your customer base.

Research indicates that it costs up to 10 times as much to attract a new customer as it does to keep an existing customer.

Good customer service can help your business grow by increasing:

  • customer numbers through favourable word-of-mouth advertising
  • the dollar amount spent per customer per transaction
  • the frequency of customer visits.

You can establish a culture of excellent customer service in your business by planning, developing and sustaining a customer service program. Train your staff to give your customers the highest level of service.

Complaints

Listen to customer complaints; you may learn something about your product or service. Let customers know that you appreciate feedback.

Overcome any objections. Listen to what the customer is objecting about (often price, merchandise or time). Confirm the validity of each concern and offer a solution.

Well-managed complaints can benefit your business. Good business owners learn to see complaints as an opportunity to build strong, lasting relationships with customers and improve their customer service. Customer complaints give businesses valuable information about how they need to improve.

The impact a complaint has on your business is largely determined by you.

If complaints are handled poorly, customers may withdraw their business and encourage others to do the same.

Complaints that are handled well may help you retain existing customers and could result in new customers being referred to your business.

Knowing your customer

Customer satisfaction surveys help companies measure satisfaction, identify unhappy customers and find potential advocates.

For most companies, customer satisfaction ratings can have powerful effects. Firstly, they help focus employees on the importance of fulfilling and exceeding customer expectations. Secondly, when satisfaction ratings dip, they warn of potential problems that can affect future revenue.

Customer satisfaction metrics assist with understanding exactly how happy (or unhappy) your customers are.

An effective customer satisfaction survey has 5-10 questions that relate to the service delivery, customer experience and overall satisfaction. Survey Monkey is a good tool to use to carry out all types of surveys.

Articles & Fresh Content

This is part A of the A to Z of Business & Website Tips

Fresh articles and website content is an important part of onsite SEO (Search Engine Optimisation done on your website).

Google values fresh content. Fresh content is a significant factor in positively influencing your Google ratings for your website. The logic here is that the more frequently you update your site, the more frequently Googlebot (Google’s crawling bot) visits your site.

All website we design & develop have special functionality installed in the back end so when you publish a new Post, News Article it pings (notifies) the top search engine feeder bots that there is fresh content on your website.

In turn, this gives you the opportunity to achieve better Google rankings. With you adding more & more articles of relevant content on your website, make Google look at your website as an authoritative source of information & this reflects over time in your Google indexing.

Although you can update your site in several different ways (not to mention all the different types of content you can create), writing new blog posts (news articles) is the best & simplest way to generate fresh content that gets picked up quickly by Google.

Writing Good Copy

To write good copy it is best to try & stick with a single theme for an article plus;

  • Make sure the Article’s URL makes sense, it will help Google list the article, eg;
    not like this, www.yourdomain.com.au/uncategorized/1234
    better being, www.yourdomain.com.au/website-tips/articles-fresh-content
  • Articles should be fresh content – NOT Copied Content, unless you take a small extract & link it to the original complete article. In this case, you need to recognise the original author.
  • Try and have the main keywords toward the start of the articles sentence & paragraphs.
  • Make sure you use good spelling & punctuality
  • Start the article with an Introduction (paragraph)
  • Present the Reason for the Articles (Blog / Post’s) existence.
Your post needs to have a purpose…… It’s to address a specific problem – There’s a problem that needs to be solved
  • Content of article (2 or 3 paragraphs) at least for a short article
  • Explain how the article (Blog/Post) will help address the problem – explain to the reader what the post will provide for them, and why it’s valuable information for them.
  • Conclusion (a paragraph) wrap up the article with a relevant solution, solutions or ideas that the reader can understand & implement
  • Have a Call to acting – if you have a similar situation, contact us today
  • Make sure you use the SEO Functionality embedded in the Post Article Admin Area,
    – Use a relevant Article Title – up to 60 characters, as most search engines use a maximum of 60 characteristics for the title.
    – Use a relevant Article Description – up to 160 characters, as most search engines use a maximum of 160 characteristics for the description.
    – Keywords – add up to 10 relevant keywords or string of keywords.
    – Tags – add up to 10 relevant Tags (words or string of words that appear in the article) no need to use your business name or other common words, Tags need to be relevant & unique to the article content.

Here are stats showing how doing regular articles can increase traffic

First, here are just a few statistics from Kapost to put blogging in perspective:

  • Brands that create 15 blog posts per month average 1,200 new leads per month.
  • Blogs give websites 434 percent more indexed pages and 97 percent more indexed links.
  • Blogs on company sites result in 55 percent more visitors.
  • B2B companies that blog generate 67 percent more leads per month than those that do not blog.

Although these are legit numbers! It demonstrates the impact writing new posts, news articles can have on your Google ranking.

So you don’t have time to write new articles!

Then engage a Content Writer, I suggest that you may want to try Hire Writers
